Ep 55 – It’s Oscars Time Again!

With the Oscars close on the horizon, it’s good to talk about some of the best picture nominations. Travis and I did our best to catch all of the films on the list (with one of us having more luck than the other) and I think we managed to capture a good amount of information about them to make a semi-informed opinion on which we think is the best of the best (hint: they all deserve to be there).

All of the movies I managed to catch were really great, although I ran into a bit of an internal problem when watching them: for every new film I saw, my favorite for Best Picture changed as well! Travis mentions a similar thought in the show about his feelings toward The Martian and being removed from it a bit emotionally due to span of time between now and the last time he saw it. That may be a good indication of how great all of these films really were. Though their presentations may differ, whether fairly straightforward (Bridge of Spies, Spotlight) or with bits of artistic flourish (The Big Short, Mad Max, The Revenant), they all manage to elicit a different type of emotion out of me.

What do you think of the films? What do you think of our picks for the different categories? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Corrections?!
At some point in the episode, I mention the article in Vanity Fair with the author of The Big Short. I said Martin Lewis… it is, in fact, Michael Lewis
