We know we’ve talked your ear off about VR, but Travis has finally had a chance to play with it a lot more. It’s an interesting discussion and I really want to try it someday… that with a whole mess of anti-throw-up medication.

We also talk at length about the different generation of hanging out with kids. I said it on the show but there’s this thought of “virtual catch”. I used to reference the song “Cat’s In the Cradle” for a long time about the importance of spending time with our kids, and it seems as though the technology allows me to always be close to the kiddo. I hope it stays true and accurate as he gets older and hates me being so weird!

Finally, we talk some standup comedy stuff, American Idol and miscellaneous other stuff! Tune in!

Look, if someone’s gonna make a poor decision, it’s gonna be Apple.

Also, if it’s going to be a poor decision but eventually turn people, begrudgingly, onto the idea, it’s gonna be Apple.

The removal of the 3.5 mm jack is, on the surface, a pretty terribad idea. There are already so many memes explaining exactly why this is a bad idea. One of my favorites is the person that says about the Apple headphone dongle, “Oh great, another thing for me to forget at home when I’m running late for a 14 hour flight.”

I think there are legitimate issues when it comes to the removal of the headphone jack. Definitely in the interim, it is inconvenient and a hassle and a dumb decision. But, on the other hand, Apple knows that the future is an actual thing and not a vague concept. There will always be a place for 3.5mm and 1/4″ for that matter, but there is room to improve upon the current tech.

I’m not generally a fan of being force fed new things. An example is Sony pushing Blu Ray down our throats. Guess what, that’s standard now, moreso than regular DVD players. But I understand the business behind it.

We’ll see what the future holds for Apple’s decision. We’ll see if it bears fruit! (get it?! Cause Apple is a fruit?!)

Travis might’ve left me all alone in Hawaii (such a terrible thing) but thanks to the magic of modern technology (magic AND technology), we’re still able to do this podcast. Even as he drives from San Diego to Omaha, we’re still able to pump out content (in between his VR breaks). We decided that this week, we’d talk about how are lives are shifting gears.Turns out, other than a few side experiences, we still have some similarities!

Sure, I may not have gone to Disneyland last week or tried out VR technology. Sure, he may not have watched the Conjuring 2 (which is great) or Zoombies (not at all great), but we both managed to see Finding Dory (which is great). 

There is a difference that is pretty cool: Travis having experienced the new VR device and my minimal experience with it. In the show, he mentions that up until he tried out the technology, he was in the same boat as me. That boat being: it’s hard pressed to be anything more than a gimmick. I sincerely believe him when he says it’s an incredible and intuitive experience. Where we differ is our thought on the the tech’s viability. I’m not sure it’ll be anything other than a temporary stop before a newer, more seamless product arrives. Travis thinks as more people see what it’s capable of, and as Microsoft and Sony start making their consoles VR compatible, that it will catch on.

I’m not sure who will be more accurate in the long term, but it’ll be an interesting journey.

However, I want to know: what are your thoughts on VR gaming? Is it ever going to be anything more than a gimmick? Are you more on Team Travis or Team Brandon? Is this their “Civil War”?
