Batman (1989) was one of the first movies I’d ever considered a favorite. That was quickly followed by Terminator 2: Judgement Day the following year. Part of the reason I had so many fond memories of Batman, we discuss on this week’s episode.
My Uncle Daniel (who, at the time, was only 5 years older than me) and my brother used to play with toys as kids, and Daniel had the awesome Batman ones. He had the Batmobile and he had the Batwing… Daniel and Tim would always end up being Batman or the good GI Joes or the badass Robotech toys, and I’d always end up with either the cheap, plastic green Army Men or Bob the Goon (Joker’s right hand man in the movie). Daniel and Tim were kind of assholes..
I also remember a few years later, walking through a Sam Goody, I saw the Batman soundtrack on CD used! I loved Danny Elfman’s score for the film so I thought it was a steal to get the soundtrack for so cheap. I got home, popped it in and quickly realized that I should’ve read the back of the cover. It was the Prince compositions for the film. Not to be critical of Prince, but I prefer Danny’s contributions. They are part of what made Batman: The Animated Series so great… an extension of my feelings from Batman 89′
